ORIGINS AND AIMS
Our passion for the breed means we hope all Gordon owners, and particularly those who own our stock, understand the nature of the animal before acquiring one, thus enabling the best possible rapport to be developed. With this in mind, it is relevant to have an understanding of the original function. Bred to work the extensive grouse moors of Scotland, a wide ranging, keen hunting dog was the brief. Gordons game-finding ability naturally extends to all other feathered game. This breed instinct is seen in Gordons today, to varying degrees. In the UK, they are not required to retrieve, but some have proved that in knowledgeable hands, they can adapt. Companion animals can sometimes adjust to the rough shooting environment where the requirement is for closer work.
At Yennadon we are most proud of our dogs ability in the shooting field. Shooting wild game over Setters and Pointers is regarded by many as la crême de la crême of field sports. We are delighted to have been asked to provide a team of dogs for shooting days. Over the last 20 years we have both been actively involved in field training days, grouse counting exercises, and competing in field trials. Our aim is to produce a dual purpose Gordon, ultimately with the title of Champion.
